This fact alone is testament to the importance of the park’s landscapes and natural resources to the Anishinaabe of northwest lower Michigan and their ancestors.

The park has a goal to further develop partnerships with the region’s Anishinaabe Tribes by involving Anishinaabe youth in developing educational programs related to the Anishinaabek way of life. This project will hire park rangers and interns to be part of the team to help develop this relationship and be a connection to the greater park community.
