The Department of Management, Strategy, and Innovation (MSI) at KU Leuven invites applications for PhD positions

in Entrepreneurship, (International) Strategy, Innovation, Economics of Science and Political Economy.

The Department of Management, Strategy and Innovation (MSI) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB)

of the KU Leuven is a leading international multidisciplinary research group. Research centers on the

organization of institutions, firms, industries and markets in an international context, with a particular focus on

innovation and corporate renewal. The department includes faculty members across the three campuses of the

FEB located in Leuven, Brussels and Antwerp, and also hosts the expertise center on R&D monitoring, ECOOM.

The department currently has about 30 faculty members, 25 PhD students and 10 postdocs.

 

MSI organizes a thriving internationally oriented PhD program. The 4-year MSI PhD trajectory is embedded in

the broader PhD program in Business Economics. In their first two years, PhD students follow foundational

courses within the main MSI research areas, courses on empirical methods and a few electives of their interest

(60 ECTS).

 

Over the course of these four years, you conduct research under the supervision of faculty members

and assist in some teaching activities of the MSI department. A typical student is expected to participate in

international research conferences and to spend some time abroad as a visiting PhD student.

As doctoral student, you will receive a stipend of at least €2,195 per month (net of taxes) with full health

insurance. MSI PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in

government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded.

 

Profile

You have a background in (Business) Economics, (Business) Engineering, Business studies, or related domains

with excellent results (at least honor level grades). Having obtained a research master degree with due

attention to quantitative and methodological courses, experience in handling large databases, quantitative

methods, and programming is a plus. You are fluent in spoken and written English.
