The new research space is set to be completed in early 2022 and will have space for indoor experiments with wildlife as well as an outdoor mesocosm area.  In addition to managing activities at the facility, the laboratory manager will assist with hands-on wildlife courses.

Job duties include:

  *   Coordinate personnel activity, oversee research projects, and coordinate animal collection and husbandry.
  *   Ensure proper data collection and management (i.e., data entry and quality control).
  *   Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies.
  *   Prepare and maintain common use chemicals and biologicals.
  *   Design and implement various methods/protocols pertaining to biological analyses.
  *   Train and oversee departmental personnel, graduate students and undergraduate students in proper and safe method, techniques and procedures for use of specific research equipment.
  *   Ensure compliance with Radiological & Environmental Management safety regulations for the laboratories and with LAP/PACUC animal use regulations for departmental animal care facilities.
  *   Assist teaching of hands-on wildlife courses (e.g., Wildlife Investigational Techniques, Wildlife Habitat Management)

Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, ecology, biology, or related field.  General laboratory management experience; experience with supervision of technical personnel.  Work with animals including field collections, trapping, and animal husbandry.  Experience conducting laboratory experiments with wildlife and experience with BSL-2. Knowledge of relevant safety procedures. Skills with MS Office and R.
