Summary

The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin) at the University of Michigan invites applications for an Instructional Consultant position with an initial focus on leading programs to support instructors at all levels. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, collaborative Center with extensive partnerships on teaching and learning across the College of Engineering and beyond. We are a key partner in the College's mission to provide support to instructors, especially new faculty and lecturers or teaching-focused faculty, ensuring a pre-eminent engineering education that is inclusive, innovative, and experiential. You will report to the Director and contribute to the work of a well-established STEM teaching center. Responsibilities*

  *   Plan and facilitate new faculty orientation, workshops, learning communities, and other programs focused on future faculty, new faculty, and lecturers
  *   Collaborate with the CRLT-Engin team and others within the College of Engineering to ensure programs are aligned with the needs of instructors and are meeting strategic goals
  *   Develop new programs to meet emerging faculty needs including exploring the use of remote, hybrid and in-person teaching modalities
  *   Consult with individual instructors about their pedagogy, course design, assessment, and other teaching-related matters
  *   Focus on inclusive and equitable teaching practices that align with the College's strategy in this area
  *   Observe classes and conduct midterm student feedback sessions
  *   Develop written resources for instructors
  *   Participate in professional development opportunities and connect with a network of educational development professionals across the University

Required Qualifications*

  *   A completed doctorate or equivalent experience (an advanced degree and 5+ years of teaching at the postsecondary level) in engineering, engineering education, or a related STEM field. Candidates for the doctorate will be considered if they have an anticipated dissertation defense date scheduled before May 1, 2022.
  *   Previous instructional experience  in a university or college setting
  *   Background in multiple pedagogical strategies and course design methodologies
  *   Knowledge and application of best practices in consulting with STEM instructors with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, social identities, institutional roles, and awareness of ways technology can enhance teaching and improve student learning
  *   Proficiency in workshop facilitation and instruction
  *   Experience using project management best practices
  *   Familiarity with the literature on the faculty experience, including teaching-focused faculty

The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin) represents a partnership between the College of Engineering and the main CRLT office.  Established in 2004, CRLT-Enin is staffed by experienced engineering and STEM educators who work in close collaboration with engineering faculty and administrators.  CRLT-Engin promotes excellence and innovation in engineering education through the facilitation of evidence-based teaching practices that supports all students. The salary range for this position is $68,000-$72,000. You can expect to be paid a fair compensation package. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions for transparency throughout the recruiting process.
