Environmental Justice Community and Program Coordinator

The ECU Water Resources Center seeks applications for an Environmental Justice Community and Program Coordinator. This person will play a key role in conducting outreach work on a large-scale, five-year research project focused on community-based science to increase the resilience of local communities to threats from hurricanes, floods, and degraded water quality. They will work with multiple communities throughout the Tar River and Pamlico Sound watersheds, but lower wealth and otherwise vulnerable communities that face environmental justice challenges are of particular concern. This person will be responsible for creating meaningful community involvement and engagement and act as a liaison between communities and other project personnel.

Position Responsibilities:

The position is based at the Water Resources Center in the Graham Building on ECU’s Greenville campus, but travel to meet with community members and organizations in Eastern North Carolina will occur on a regular basis. A graduate degree in a relevant social or natural science or a relevant undergraduate degree with at least two years of relevant experience, such as working as a community organizer, science communication or outreach to the public, or lived experience working on environmental justice issues. A qualified applicant will have previous experience managing projects and coordinating teams.  Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.  Comfort working with computers in applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is important. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to partner communities is essential.
