Position: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Strategy (Two positions, open rank)

Position Description

The Melbourne Business School (MBS) seeks to fill two open-rank positions in Strategy. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Strategy or a related field and must demonstrate a record of publishing in top academic journals and have achieved excellence in teaching. Applications are open to all areas of Strategy and would be particularly welcome in the areas of innovation & entrepreneurship, sustainability, or international strategy. It is anticipated that teaching for one of the positions will be concentrated in executive education.

Melbourne Business School, affiliated with the University of Melbourne, is a leading graduate business school in Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region. MBS offers MBA, Executive MBA, Master of Marketing, and Master of Business Analytics programs, as well as a suite of Executive Education offerings. The School’s full-time MBA program has consistently featured in the Financial Times rankings and was ranked 1st in Australia by The Economist in 2021. The School’s Master of Business Analytics program was ranked 15th globally and is top ranked in the Asia/Pacific region in the QS Business Masters Rankings: Business Analytics in 2021.

The position is in the Strategy cluster, which currently has four full time academic faculty: Glenn Hoetker, Brandon Lee, Kwanghui Lim and Geoff Martin. Members of the cluster have active research interests in corporate finance, entrepreneurship, innovation, networks and alliances, strategic decision making and sustainability. The position is located at the school’s main building, which is part of the University of Melbourne’s Carlton campus in inner Melbourne. Flexible working arrangements are available to all staff. The occupant will have an employment contract with Melbourne Business School Limited, and an internationally competitive package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to pursue excellence in teaching and a highly active research agenda. They will be expected to teach into the school’s post-experience MBA degrees and—either immediately or in the future—to help develop and teach content to audiences in the school’s executive education program (short courses and custom solutions).

The school stresses quality rather than quantity of research. Therefore, preference is for faculty to publish in internationally recognised top tier journals. MBS has low administration expectations from its junior faculty.
