Dear Friends and Colleagues, We are delighted to share accomplishment, news, and activities from Global Strategy Journal (GSJ) in this 2021 Year in Review. The Academic Journal Guide released its 2021 journal ratings, and GSJ is now a level 4 journal! We are delighted with this recognition of the quality of the articles published in the journal. The Journal Citation Report also released its new analyses for 2021. GSJ achieved an impact factor to 7.571, making it a Q1 journal and ranking 30 among management journals. We thank the authors, reviewers, and associate editors for their contributions to such achievements. We welcomed three new Associate Editors: Rene Belderbos of KU Leuven in Belgium, who studies innovation strategies and international business strategies of multinational firms; Rian Drogendijk of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, who analyzes internationalization processes and cross-cultural management; and Sergio Lazzarini of Insper in Brazil, who studies the impact of emerging market contexts on strategy, public-private interaction dynamics, and impact investing. We thank the admirable work ethic and fantastic guidance to authors provided by Shige Makino of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who is stepping down as Associate Editor at the end of the year. We also thank Paul Vaaler of the University of Minnesota, who stepped down as Associate Editor earlier in the year, for his contributions to the journal. This year’s GSJ Best Paper Prize went to “Managing a global partnership model: Lessons from the Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’ program” by Suresh Kotha & Kannan Srikanth published in 2013 (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.2042-5805.2012.01050.x). It joins a stream of impactful articles published in GSJ, such as the other recipients of the GSJ Best Paper Prize (https://www.strategicmanagement.net/awards/gsj-best-paper) and other highly cited and read articles (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/20425805?tabActivePane=undefined). These and other articles have benefitted from the new promotion by the SMS media team through video abstracts and virtual special issues (https://www.strategicmanagement.net/home/media-innovations) and blogs (https://strategic-management.org/). We continued our participation at conferences by joining meet-the-editor sessions, organizing paper development workshops (e.g., AIB, IACMR, SMS), and sponsoring best paper awards (e.g., CLADEA, EIBA, IACMR, SEMEAD). The four issues (February, May, August, November) reflect our goals of a focused, high-quality journal shaping research conversations in global strategy. We published two special issues that build bridges between global strategy and the fields of technology strategy and entrepreneurship. The first one on “Digitalization and Global Strategy” (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/20425805/2021/11/1) was edited by Erkko Autio, Ram Mudambi, and Youngjin Yoo. The second one, titled “Institutions and Entrepreneurship” (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/20425805/2021/11/4), was edited by Dan Li, Michael A. Hitt, Bat Batjargal, R. Duane Ireland, Toyah L. Miller, and Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra. The two regular issues contained articles grouped around common themes, one on institutions and politics (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/20425805/2021/11/2) and another on multinational management (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/20425805/2021/11/3). Looking ahead, in 2022 we start the year with two special issues celebrating “A Decade of GSJ.” These contain papers from thoughts leaders in strategic and international management that reflect on the past and future of key themes on global strategy. We have an open call for papers for a special issue on “Ownership and Global Strategy” edited by Geoffrey T. Wood, Anna Grosman, Michael J. Mol, and Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, which has a deadline of June 15, 2022 (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/pb-assets/OwnershipGlobalStrategy_SI_GSJ_210822-1630678705.pdf). Of course, you will always find the forthcoming papers in the early view articles (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/20425805/0/0). Thank you for making GSJ the top journal studying strategy in context. We look forward to receiving your best work for consideration for publication. Best wishes for the Holiday Season and 2022!
