Subject: Three positions at Lund

Hi all—

I would be really grateful if you could please circulate these new positions to your networks.

Kristian, I hope you’ll consider applying for the Social Science of Climate Change position!! :)

Kim

Dear friends,

My department, the Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS) in Sweden, is recruiting for three entry-level tenure-track positions (similar to Assistant Professor in the US system), with applications due January 31, 2022. Applicants should be within 5 years of having completed their PhD (with exceptions for e.g., medical or parental leave).

In brief, we seek interdisciplinary scholars who are excellent researchers and teachers, and collegial colleagues.

The three positions focus on sustainability and:

(1) Geographies of Sustainability Science, including e.g., natural science/quantitative methods, big data, place-based, communication & outreach

(2) Social science of climate change, including e.g., governanceclimate justicetransformationsstorytelling/arts, digitalisation, technologies and transdisciplinary qualitative methods

(3) Social science of sustainability, including e.g., environmental sociology, political ecology and STS (Science, Technology and Society), feminist, #decolonial approaches or developing emotional and #relational capacities), and qualitative and mixed methods.)

Please see short descriptions below, and click on the links for full descriptions and application instructions.

Please circulate widely, and encourage a diverse range of qualified candidates to submit an application!

1. Associate senior lecturer in Sustainability Science: Geographies of Sustainability

The applicant should have an interdisciplinary background with a focus on natural science and methods. The position focuses on the geographical aspects of sustainability, but as interdisciplinarity is a vital part of sustainability science and LUCSUS teaching, academic breath is considered a strong merit. Teaching will focus on broad geographical approaches to sustainability, a diverse range of quantitative methods, and solid theoretical knowledge and competence in teaching subjects such as earthsystem science, land use change, climate change, biodiversity, and water. The candidate will have the ability to infuse LUCSUS with new methodologies, as well as to lead on connecting different researchers with enthusiasm for engagement in new and emerging areas such as place-based research and connections to big data, as well as communication and outreach. In addition to teaching the applicant should have experience of running and developing courses as well as thesis supervision. Merit is also given to having developed and received research grants.

2. Associate senior lecturer in Sustainability Science: Social Science of Climate Change

The applicant should have an interdisciplinary profile with a focus on social science and methods. The position focuses on the social science aspects of climate change, but as interdisciplinarity is a vital part of sustainability science and LUCSUS teaching, academic breadth is considered a strong merit. Teaching will focus on the societal dimensions of climate change, with emerging areas of climate/energy justice, governance, storytelling/arts, digitalisation, technologies and transdisciplinary qualitative methods, and innovation in teaching central to sustainability transitions and transformations.

In addition to teaching, the applicant should have experience of course design, programme development and thesis supervision. Merit is also given to having developed, received, led, and coordinated research grants.

3. Associate senior lecturer in Sustainability Science: Social Science of Sustainability

The applicant should have an interdisciplinary profile with a track record of working in environmental, ecological or climate related areas using perspectives encompassing a variety of theoretical entry points such as for example environmental sociology, political ecology and STS (Science, Technology and Society).Emphasis will be put on pedagogical experience and skills, including experience of teaching theoretical contributions and novel approaches to sustainability science (could include feminist, decolonial approaches or developing emotional and relational capacities) and qualitative and mixed methods.

In addition to teaching, the applicant should have experience of course design, programme development and thesis supervision. Merit is also given to having developed, received, led, and coordinated research grants.

Kind regards,
