The Barrett Soil Ecology and Biogeochemistry Laboratory at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for a Graduate Research Assistant position to study the influence of pyrogenic carbon on soil microbial communities and organic matter dynamics in forest and agricultural ecosystems. This research is funded by a new USDA grant supporting an interdisciplinary project combining soil ecology, biogeochemistry, micro-imaging, and modeling to investigate how pyrogenic carbon influences soil microstructure and the resulting microbial dynamics and biogeochemical cycling in diverse soils.

The successful applicant will start in August 2022 and will have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary programs in the Dept. of Biological Sciences (https://www.biol.vt.edu/) and the Global Change Center (http://www.globalchange.vt.edu/affiliated-faculty/) at Virginia Tech. Previous research experience and the demonstrated ability to work independently in the field and lab is required.

Please contact Dr. Jeb Barrett for further information.
