Call for a Special Issue “Innovation across borders to achieve Sustainable Development Goals” in Research in International Business and Finance
Overview
Academic research on sustainability received an important motivation in 2015 with the announcement of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (Di Vaio, 2020). Targeting SDGs is becoming an increasingly important consideration
in the design and development of business models, products, services, and technologies. With businesses and individuals becoming more concerned about sustainability issues, it is expected that innovation will embrace sustainability more fully in the near future.
Moreover, innovation alone is one of the SDGs (Goal 9), while also a mean for achieving the others.
This special issue therefore aims to gather contributions shedding light on the interaction of organizations and individuals across borders within the context of a global innovation system to achieve SDGs. Indeed, international
interactions can have an impact on sustainable development through trade, capital flows, multinational corporations, and migration, among many other factors (Kolk et al., 2017; Maksimov 2019). However, there is not consensus on whether these interactions have
a positive or negative impact on society and the environment (Van Zanten, J. A., & Van Tulder, 2018).
