Sharing on behalf of Rich Pirog [apologies for any cross-postings!]
Greetings,
My name is Rich Pirog, and I am the Director of the Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS).
I am writing to request your help identifying citations to update the eighth edition of CRFS’s publication: An
Annotated Bibliography on Structural Racism Present in the U.S. Food System.
The mission of CRFS is to engage Michigan, the United States and the world in applied research, education and outreach to develop regionally integrated, sustainable food systems. The Center is committed to shedding light on the ways
in which power and inequity manifest within the food system.
An Annotated Bibliography on Structural Racism Present in the U.S. Food System contains selected resources and publications
focused on recent research and outreach on structural racism in the U.S. food system. The eighth edition of the resource, published in January 2021, contains more than 385 citations including 6 new videos and 100 new journal citations. All entries in the annotated
bibliography are also available in Zotero, a free software that lets users easily save, manage, and cite sources. You can access the Zotero
group library here.
The COVID-19 pandemic shed further light on existing racial disparities in the U.S. food system. Both the pandemic and the refocused attention on racism influenced the significant number of new contributions to the eighth edition of
this annotated bibliography. To that end, I am asking for your help identifying additional citations for an updated 9th edition of the bibliography to be published in March 2022.
While there are many important resources on racism and anti-racism in the U.S., and/or on the state of the food system, our key filter for inclusion in the bibliography is a link between structural racism and one or more aspects of
the U.S. food system. We are seeking citations that refer to research, analysis, outreach, and commentary on BOTH structural
racism AND the U.S. food system. This includes citations on food justice and food sovereignty in the United States.
The following citations will be accepted for review:
We will not be including blogs, newspaper articles, tweets, podcasts, etc. because of the sheer volume of these resources.
Once a suggestion is submitted there will be a simple vetting process to determine the fit of submission; please note that not all submissions may be included in the ninth edition. We hope to publish the ninth edition online by March
2022.
We would like as many suggestions as possible. Please share this request widely on Listservs and with colleagues, friends, who may have additional resources to include!
Deadline for citation submission is Monday, November 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM, PST.
Send all submissions or questions to Rich Pirog at [log in to unmask].
When making a submission please include (if possible):
