I’m once again asking for help to fill four current vacancies in my lab for Research Scientists (MS or PhD preferred) and MS students. All positions would ideally start in January but I could wait until the end of the spring semester if needed. Below are the position descriptions. MW Four (4) job opportunities for full time Research Scientists and MS graduate students at Iowa State University investigating: 1) Research Scientist investigating invasive carp (Bighead and Silver Carp) tributary movements, behavioral interactions with barriers, and survival using acoustic telemetry 2) MS student OR Research Scientist investigating invasive carp and native fish reproduction phenology in rivers 3) MS student investigating mechanisms driving stream fish distribution 4) MS student investigating effects of reservoir releases on downstream mussel populations All positions will assist with the collection of fish in the field and processing samples in the laboratory. Additionally, these positions will train undergraduate students on appropriate use of field and laboratory equipment and will be responsible for data quality control in the field and the lab. The successful candidates will conduct data analysis and assists in writing technical reports and scientific manuscripts. Successful candidates will possess excellent organization skills, demonstrated technical writing skills, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. These positions require in-state travel that may include overnight stays. Research Scientist preferred qualifications: Experience conducting fisheries investigations. Experience sampling fish in rivers, working with acoustic tags and receivers, and analyzing acoustic telemetry data. MS or PhD in Fisheries, Biology, or related field Experience trailering and operating a boat. Experience with experimental study design. Experience publishing scientific manuscripts. Proficient in MS Office Suite and analysis (e.g., R, SAS) and graphing (e.g., R, SigmaPlot) software Salary: ~$40,000 year plus benefits MS Student Preferred Qualifications B.S. degree in fisheries or related field. Experience boating and sampling fishes in rivers is beneficial but not required. Candidates with demonstrated written and oral communication, analytical skills, and strong academic credentials are preferred.
