Position Announcement: Management Department, Fowler College of Business, San Diego State University. 
VPAA 2022-23-10 

The Department of Management in the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in
International Strategy at the Assistant Professor level for Fall 2022. SDSU values high quality scholarship and teaching; and therefore the successful candidate will exhibit competence/potential in both areas. The first entails conducting high quality scholarship in international strategy resulting in top-tier journal publications and academic thought leadership. The second involves effectively teaching international business and strategic management courses (e.g., international strategic management, cross-cultural management) to support the undergraduate Management and International Business programs, the graduate Masters in Science in Global Business Development program; and assisting with related co-curricular activities such as working with the SDSU Center for Advancing Global Business (CAGB). Graduate level teaching may be expected depending upon demand. Filling this position will be contingent upon state funding. 


The SDSU
Fowler College of Business is among the nation’s oldest and largest AACSB accredited business schools. Jointly with the College of Arts & Letters, the Fowler College of Business offers an International Business (IB) program that has been ranked consistently among the top in the nation (ranked 8th in the nation in 2021 by the U.S. News & World Report). It houses the Center for Advancing Global Business (CAGB) designated as a National Center of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education since 1989. The Management Department’s faculty includes 18 tenure-track faculty as well as several full- and part-time lecturers. Support for research includes access to databases, funding for approved projects through grant programs, graduate student assistants, a research budget for conference travel, and items/data supporting research.

Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in Strategic Management, International Business or related area by
August 2022. Applicants with equivalent degrees in other disciplines with relevant teaching and research may also apply. Well-qualified applicants will have demonstrated both high quality international strategy research with publications in top-tier journals and evidence of excellence in teaching international strategy courses at the undergraduate level. 

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the following eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. For the purposes of BIE, diverse and underrepresented populations are African-American, Latinx, Native American, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander, groups of varying abilities, women in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or any other group that has been documented as underrepresented in the candidate’s academic discipline. Please indicate and provide evidence in your cover letter of how you meet at least two or more of these criteria.
