for an online panel discussion on frontier technologies and inequality. You will gain a comprehensive picture of the status and trend of frontier technologies on developing countries. Few countries create the technologies that drive
the fourth industrial revolution, but all countries will be affected by them. In this panel, we discuss the potential effects of digitalization and Industry 4.0 and what this implies for countries which are not well prepared for the consequences.

Clovis Freire is an Economist working at the Division on Technology
and Logistics of the UNCTAD. He is trained as a Computer Engineer with a PhD in Economics, specialized
in Economics of Technological Change and Innovation. He coordinated and was the lead author of the Technology
and Innovation Report 2021, focusing on how developing countries can catch the new wave of technological change to drive structural transformation and sustainable development while
minimizing the risks of increasing inequalities. Before joining UNCTAD, in his 18 years with the UN,
Clovis worked at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific, in Bangkok, on various issues related to technology and socio-economic
development such as Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs, building productive capacities in LDCs, ICT and Space technologies for development, and disaster risk reduction.
Susan E. Cozzens is Professor Emerita in the School of Public Policy. Dr. Cozzens’s research interest is innovation and inequality, with a focus on how science, technology, and innovation policies affect
the intersections between them. Her current projects are on the potential for artificial intelligence to increase or decrease inequalities and on women in leadership in science-intensive U.S. federal agencies. Dr. Cozzens is Vice President of GLOBELICS, the
global network on the economics of learning, innovation, and competence building systems, and Associate Editor of the journal
Innovation and Development.
Alfred Watkins is Founder and Chairman of the Global Solutions Summit (GSS) which promotes the large-scale deployment of financially-sustainable
disruptive technological solutions for such global challenges as affordable access to potable water, renewable energy, ICT, low-cost, high-quality health care, housing, food security, and climate adaptation and mitigation. Previous Summits have convened
at the US Department of State, the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas, and UN Headquarters in New York City. He has also served as a consultant to several UN agencies, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and various private clients
and NGOs.
