You must be a student to qualify for these positions. ====================== Biological Technician to assist with photo interpretation Position Title: Contract Biological Science Technician Hiring Agency: US Geological Survey—Great Lakes Science Center (1450 Green Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105) Contact: Dr. Peter Esselman, [log in to unmask] Duration of appointment: Full time during summer, with potential for full or part time during semester for a maximum of 2 years Compensation: $15.90 per hour (flat rate, no overtime) Travel required: Position will not require overnight travel Position description Up to four contract Biological Science Technicians are sought to assist with photo interpretation in support of a program to quantify Great Lakes lakebed features from photographs taken with an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV takes thousands of pictures per day, which the researchers use to train computers to identify different types of habitat, invasive mussels, benthic fish, nuisance algae, and other lakebed features. The technicians will assist with visual interpretation of the photographs taken by the AUV, and may also contribute to miscellaneous lab tasks including occasional sample processing, management of fish behavior experiments under the supervision, and miscellaneous administrative tasks at the discretion of the project leader. The contractor should expect to work up to 50 hours per week during the summer between May and August. Expected hours during the fall and winter semesters are negotiable but could range from 15 to 40 hours per week. Why work for USGS? Biological Technician to assist with photo interpretation Qualifications To qualify you should: * • Be a student with one year of coursework already completed towards a bachelor’s degree. * • Be proficient with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. * • Be self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to work in an efficient and self-directed manner. * • Be able to work harmoniously in a team setting. * • Possess good communication skills in both written and verbal forms. * • Be a United States citizen or possess a Permanent Resident Card. Desired qualifications: * • Proficiency with photo and video editing software. * • Coursework or experience pertaining to Great Lakes ecosystems and aquatic ecology. * • Proficiency with fish identification.
