This position’s primary role is to support strategic curriculum projects related to Undergraduate Studies first year seminars, learning outcomes and test assessment, and student support workshops designed and managed by the Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Global Education in the Office of Undergraduate Education.
Essential duties and responsibilities for this aspect of the job include:
Curriculum (55%) and Teaching (15%)
• Providing support for the Undergraduate Studies administration team through curriculum development for UGS courses; instructor resources and training; and course assessment and evaluation;
• Helping create and administer new UGS offerings in support of MSU’s second-year experience priorities;
• Teaching one UGS course per semester (101 or 110) and other summer and first year courses as desired and time permits;
• Consulting with Colleges related to first-year seminars, curriculum efforts, test policies, test creation, and test implementation to promote collaboration and best practice;
• Developing curriculum for on-call and student proctors;
• Assisting with the development and implementation of academic student success workshops in association with the Collaborative Learning Center (CLC);
• Consulting with campus and community stakeholders about testing needs, pedagogy, and policy;
• Adhering to National College Testing Association Standards and ensuring staff compliance and office accreditation.
• Oversight of testing policies and procedures per accreditation, external, and internal guidelines; and
• Maintaining assessment, evaluation, and usage data needs for internal and external planning and reporting.
• Establishing and reviewing relationships with external vendors, parents, and students to maintain and expand revenue sources for UGS and the testing center;
• Coordinating messages with Admissions, high schools, students, and families about programs and initiatives.
• Overseeing office functions including budgeting, human resources, training, assessment, and communications for assigned areas including UGS 101 instructors, supplies and testing Center;
• Helping supervise student labor.

• Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a master's degree and at least five years of work experience in higher education or a related field
• Experience with managing a staff and budget

• Knowledge of MSU IT systems, including those used for human resources, budgeting, and curriculum
• Work experience in academic affairs at a large public institution with a focus on first-year students, curriculum design and assessment, and/or testing
• Knowledge of current issue, best practices, and innovative solutions related first-year students, curriculum assessment, and/or national testing best practices
• Certification for –or experience with—managing external testing protocols
• Experience managing complex change initiatives in a collaborative and consensus building environment.
