 Seasonal Stewardship Technician

Overview: This position’s primary responsibilities include the training and supervision of Legacy’s seasonal Stewardship Crew and assisting the Easement Stewardship Coordinator in completion of Legacy’s broader stewardship activities including conservation easement monitoring and completion of baseline documentation reports.

Reports to: Land Stewardship Manager and Easement Stewardship Coordinator

Hours: 40 hours per week. Time will be primarily spent on Legacy’s preserves and conservation easement properties. Legacy embraces a remote work culture – time spent on administrative work can be completed remotely with approval.

Compensation: 19$ an hour.

Duration of Position: Mid-April through September 2021, approximately

Responsibilities/Duties:

Supervision and Planning

  *   • Train and educate Crew members on land management techniques, best practices, and safety protocols.
  *   • Plan and schedule weekly Crew activities, in coordination with supervisor as needed.
  *   • Approve timesheets and time off requests
  *   • Report on Crew needs and performance to Land Stewardship Manager
  *   • Keep accurate records of stewardship work performed; enter details and metrics into Landscape database



Program Implementation

  *   • Habitat management including invasive species control and restoration projects as available
  *   • Trail maintenance and improvement
  *   • Perform conservation easement monitoring visits as requested by Easement Stewardship Coordinator including appropriate documentation and reporting
  *   • Assist Easement Stewardship Coordinator with tasks related to completion of baseline documentation reports as requested



Volunteer Engagement

  *   • Lead occasional workdays engaging volunteer groups in stewardship on Legacy preserves
  *   • Orientation and training of individual stewardship volunteers as time allows
  *   • Assist Easement Stewardship Coordinator with tasks related to management of volunteer easement monitoring program as requested



Job Experience and Skills:

  *   • Supervisory experience including leading work crews and/or volunteer groups
  *   • Background in natural resources management including invasive species management
  *   • Knowledge of local flora and ecology types
  *   • Familiar with GIS programs and technology
  *   • Experience with and ability to use hand and power tools
  *   • Comfortable learning new technologies and computer programs
  *   • Licensed herbicide applicator or willingness and ability to acquire this certification



Other Requirements:

  *   • Must be able to work efficiently outdoors in varying conditions and terrain
  *   • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  *   • Enthusiasm for Legacy’s work and mission
  *   • Excited about teaching others the “why” and “how” of land management
