The technicians will assist a PhD student in setting up camera traps and hair snares to collect information on black bear genetics and space use, as well as vegetative, invertebrate, and vertebrate sampling for stable isotopes, and performing habitat sampling. Work will be conducted on public and private lands. Field housing will be provided. Expected duties include driving for long distances, hiking with gear to sites that may be inaccessible from drivable roads, data collection, and performing duties in typical southeastern summer conditions, which may include extreme weather. Qualifications: Experience with habitat sampling and working knowledge of plants of the southeastern US are highly desired. Applicants should have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and must be able to perform fieldwork full time. Applicants must be able to hike with up to 50 lbs. of gear for long distances to sites if needed and be able to work efficiently in all weather conditions. An academic background in wildlife biology, zoology, environmental science or a related field is preferred. Applicants must also be able to work in a professional capacity while representing Mississippi State University on private, state, and federal lands. Fieldwork can be time-consuming and taxing. A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and attention to detail are necessary.
