Subject: [scuttlebutt:18474] Professional M.A. in Marine Science at VIMS
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science is currently welcoming applications for a new interdisciplinary Professional M.A. in Marine Science<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.vims.edu/education/graduate/admissions/degree_options/m.a._degree/index.php__;!!HXCxUKc!mbWEnASLRV2NFbHEYM9fXjxtg-QZiZbJBi6pRf6oGp1d9jVM5oFGVJQ-VsBVE5vEEg$>, designed to produce graduates with the advanced knowledge, skills, and experience needed to translate, integrate, and apply marine science to issues of pressing societal concern. This program combines a rigorous academic curriculum in marine science with professional development opportunities including an experiential internship and capstone project tailored to the individual interests of the student. The M.A. in Marine Science program prepares individuals to broaden the impacts of science through education and outreach. Students will join both the globally recognized Virginia Institute of Marine Science and William & Mary communities to provide critical marine science research, education, and advisory services.

VIMS has a robust foundation of marine science education programs established to provide science-based lessons and outreach to K-12 teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, and informal educators. In this experiential program, education-oriented M.A. students can leverage the VIMS educational expertise and outreach programs, which include:

• Camp Launch - A partnership program between VIMS and the William and Mary School of Education to provide a summer enrichment camp on marine science content and experiences to high-achieving, undeserved middle and high school students.
• Virginia Scientist & Educators Alliance (VASEA) - Network of graduate students, teachers, and informal educators translating scientific research into usable and globally distributed lesson plans.
• Mariners’ Museum Education Collaboration - VIMS educators and graduate students work with the Mariners’ Museum to develop museum content and programs for visiting K-12 classrooms.
• Bridge Ocean Education Resource Center - Collaboration between VIMS, NOAA Sea Grant, and the National Marine Educators Association to provide educators with an accurate and comprehensive source of regional, national, and global marine science topics and lesson plans.
