Ph.D. Program in International Finance Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina Overview The Moore School of Business, a global leader in international business education and research, offers a Ph.D. program in Business Administration with a concentration in international finance. The objective of this doctoral program is to prepare leading scholars in international finance through rigorous and intensive research training. Graduates in this concentration typically seek positions in university departments of finance or international business, where they are expected to approach research issues in international finance using the methodologies and concepts of current finance theory. Our graduates have received major research awards and published in top-tier journals, including the Accounting Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Finance, and Journal of International Business Studies, among others. Profile Successful candidates are highly motivated applicants committed to academic and research-oriented careers in international finance as their primary focus, with strong quantitative skills and excellent academic achievement. We specifically encourage applicants interested in cross-disciplinary research, bridging between finance and other functional areas. Program of Study Building on the strengths of the international business and finance departments, the international finance concentration includes doctoral courses offered by our renowned faculty covering asset pricing, corporate finance, corporate governance, international business and finance, investment, risk management, and banking. To prepare candidates to carry out the type of research that leads to results publishable in top finance and international business journals, the doctoral core provides a substantial background in econometrics, statistics, and other related quantitative subjects applicable to extending the theoretical and empirical understanding of international finance. Research and Teaching Support Doctoral students in international finance have a close working relationship with the faculty, often participating in joint research projects. Students also have the opportunity to become involved in research at or through South Carolina's Center for International Business Education and Research. When doctoral students present papers at major academic conferences, financial aid is given to cover some of the costs. The Moore School of Business subscribes to several key research databases and supports data acquisition. To prepare doctoral students for the academic job market, there is the opportunity to teach one or two undergraduate business courses during their program of study. Admission and Financial Support Admission to the program is highly competitive. Applications for the next admission, Fall 2021, should be submitted by December 15, 2020 (early deadline) or January 15, 2021 (final round). When considering an applicant, we look at test scores (GMAT or GRE), letters of recommendation, statement of career objectives, résumé, transcripts, and applicant's level of commitment to excellence in research. Competitive stipend includes a unique research and technology grant and other research support for a period of 5 years to all candidates who are accepted.
