Job Description

The Agroecology and Rural Economic Research Corps (ARERC or ‘RRC’) seeks to hire one state coordinator for Illinois for a major community-led study of Midwest food systems. The position will start immediately.

The project is being co-conducted with Regeneration Midwest (RMW) and is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Health and Climate Change Solutions program. The study entails a regional comparison of the effects of regenerative and conventional agricultural systems on climate change mitigation and population health. The project will include site visits to two counties per study state, one largely conventional in its prevalent agricultural practices and the other with a significant representation of operations conducting regenerative agriculture.

The six state coordinators, one per state, will be tasked to help our two lead researchers select and recruit the study counties for the site visits. The representatives will also be responsible for managing the logistics of the site visits. Two counties per state will be selected based in part on the state coordinator’s experience and understanding of their home state.

Candidates are expected to have had field-based experience in studying or advocating for agricultural, climate mitigation, and/or population health in a rural context in Illinois. The selected coordinator must be fluent in the distribution and practices of agriculture in Illinois. They must be team-oriented. They must also currently reside in Illinois.

The position is considered part-time and compensation tied to a .25 full-time equivalent schedule. That is, the hired coordinator will be paid for three months’ work to be tailored to the coordinator’s schedule and in concert with the needs of the project.
