Family
Business Navigating Global Crisis
Family business makes up an important part of the global economy. Due to the involvement of three overlapping elements (i.e., family, business, and ownership), family business is
different from other types of organizations. While some family businesses struggle to survive into the third generation, others tend to perform well over time compared to their corporate counterparts.
As humanity copes with the effects of the current COVID-19 crisis, family businesses may be able to play an important role in helping both businesses and consumers in navigating through
the many market and technological uncertainties that this crisis has created, and no doubt will further create in the future. Yet, we know very little about that role. The purpose of this webinar is to develop a deeper understanding of that role so that thoughtful
managers and policy-makers can develop more forceful responses to the new challenges they are now facing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The webinar will address the following:
·
The unique features of family businesses that provide advantages for them to respond to the COVID-19 crisis;
·
The challenges family businesses face and how they can convert these challenges into business opportunities during and in the post-pandemic world;
·
The role of organizational and national culture in shaping the effectiveness of these response strategies.

Virtual
Study Abroad: Exploring New Impactful International Experiences
The recent pandemic has led to major travel disruptions and to the cancellation of almost all study abroad programs in spring and summer 2020. However, opportunities for leveraging
technologies to ensure internationally-focused experiential activities have also become apparent. Existing and new technologies are being used to digitize signature experiences on study abroad programs.
In this workshops the speakers will share their own experiences in implementing virtual study abroad in spring 2020 including live webinars, panels, live cases, and virtual exchange
projects with peers.
·
Identify best practices in designing and implementing virtual study abroad.
·
Leverage technologies to create unique international experiences for students.
·
Identify the opportunities of virtual study abroad programs, and integrating these into business program curriculum.

invariance, analyses, alternative testing, among other topics. The Webinar will also address challenges and opportunities of IB research in light of disruptive societal shifts and the emergence of "the new normal."
Takeaways from this webinar include:
·
Theory-model fit in international business research
·
Life cycle of cross-cultural empirical projects

Teaching
IB in a Post-Pandemic Era
The global health emergency caused by the COVID 19 virus is far from over, but we still need to reflect its impact on how and what we teach in our international business courses.
When we meet our students again this Fall (in person or online), we need to address at least two issues. First, we should ask ourselves how the content of what we teach should be modified. Where, in the curriculum, are the best opportunities to infuse new
concepts or accentuate existing topics? Second, should we alter our pedagogical tools in any way? What opportunities are there for experiential and classroom activities?
This webinar features Professor S. Tamer Cavusgil as the principal speaker. Rejoinders will be provided by Professor Saeed Samiee from University of Tulsa, Professor Manuel Serapio
from University of Colorado-Denver, and Dr. Maria Luiza Pinho from Georgia State University.
·
Learn about best opportunities to integrate disruption-related concepts into the IB curriculum, especially in teaching the introductory IB course;
·
Learn about pedagogical tools for incorporating into your teaching that would reinforce your course objectives; and
·
Receive a list of exercises, cases, videos, and other teaching materials helpful in addressing such global disruptions as the health pandemic.
