BEHIND THE SCENES IN ACADEMIA:
HIDDEN STORIES OF THE WOMEN AIB FELLOWS
As of July 2020, there are 26 women AIB Fellows; they are 22% of active AIB Fellows and less than 1% of AIB members. How did this tiny group of 26 women rise through the ranks to be selected by their peers as AIB Fellows? Curriculum vitae record the public stories behind academic careers. CVs do not, however, convey the private stories that may be more important predictors. In a series of 4 linked panels, the women AIB Fellows gather together virtually to discuss hidden stories behind their career successes, focusing on “behind the scenes” challenges and opportunities in 4 issue areas: Places, People, Events, and Gender. The Fellows draw some lessons from their Hidden Stories for doctoral students and junior faculty. A Q&A session with the audience members follows. These panels are sponsored by WAIB (Women in the Academy of International Business) and AIB 2020 Track 7: Gender and Diversity.
