Many universities and national research agencies across the world are presently struggling with the challenges of delivering on Open Science. 

Open Science leads to new demands regarding data access and research transparency, also referred to as DART. Editorial boards of leading scholarly outlets are also confronted with the need to take a clear position in this debate.

After a multi-year stakeholder engagement process that involved several AIB constituencies on how to address the challenges posed by Open Science, JIBS has published its new data access and research transparency policy. It is available for free download at https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/s41267-020-00323-z.

This JIBS Editorial will benefit all scholars in the social sciences who are:

-          Participating in Open Science initiatives and face associated DART challenges, including legal, ethical and organizational dimensions;

-          Required to take a position in this debate, for example in a leadership role in their university;

-          Conducting research and requiring up-to-date knowledge on the changing DART landscape;

-          Interested in understanding the position of the JIBS editorial team and the AIB Executive Board in this DART debate.
