University of Victoria – The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business and the Centre for Asia Pacific Initiatives (CAPI) invite applications from talented scholars for the Jarislowsky CAPI Japan (East Asia) Chair. The Chair will be equally engaged
with CAPI and Gustavson by being appointed at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Faculty of Business and being embedded at CAPI, playing a key role as one of the Centre’s three prestigious research chairs. The appointment will begin on July
1, 2020 or as soon thereafter as possible.
Japan-focused scholars with an established reputation in their area of expertise, a publication record consistent with the level of appointment sought, and teaching experience with a global focus are encouraged to apply. Applicants should
have a good understanding of and practical experience working in Japan. Fluency in the Japanese language is highly desirable. The Jarislowsky CAPI Japan (East Asia) Chair complements CAPI’s two other chairs in East Asia Relations, namely the Chair in Asia-Pacific
Legal Relations and the China Chair.
The Jarislowsky CAPI Chair will be actively engaged in developing and leading CAPI programs involving research, dynamic learning and community-engaged activities. The goal of these programs is to help students develop a thorough understanding
and appreciation of Japanese culture. The Chair will teach courses in the Faculty of Business and be expected to participate actively in graduate student supervision and education. The position comes with a substantial reduction in the regular teaching load
and a generous research support package.
Gustavson is one of the few North American schools that is accredited by both the European Federation of Management Development (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The experiential dimension in
our academic programs includes mandatory co-op for all undergraduate students, international exchanges, and overseas co-op work opportunities. In line with this approach, we will give preference to candidates with direct international and business experience.
