Essential Job Duties
The Organic Production Systems Program in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences is seeking to fill an Extension Assistant position. The incumbent will lead extension and research activities pertaining to large acreage organic commodity crops and general organic agriculture training for industry stakeholders, growers, and extension personnel. Development of educational materials including websites, social media, field demonstration plots, field days, fact sheets, and production guides will be required. The incumbent will be required to work with faculty and students in related areas to develop appropriate educational materials that address the needs of growers.

Other Work/Responsibilities
The Extension Assistant will coordinate organic working group meetings. The incumbent will also coordinate and supervise temporary employees as well as teach and work with undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Education/Experience
Relevant Master’s Degree, or a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) or more years of professional training and experience (horticulture, agronomy, or closely related fields).

Departmental Required Skills
• Ability to collaborate with scientists, peers, and graduate students.
• Experience coordinating applied education training in organic agriculture.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with researchers from diverse academic backgrounds.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• 2-5 years of directly related experience.
• Ability to handle farm machinery such as tractors, combines, planters, etc.
• Ability to coordinate multi-location field studies.
• Ability to teach and work with undergraduate and graduate students.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate schedules for temporary employees.
• Prefer a Valid Commercial Driver’s License at the time of hire.
Required License or Certification
• Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
