Many small and medium scale growers of fresh produce feel that post-harvest handling and hygiene is a significant challenge, especially in light of the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule requirements.  This press release offers growers information about an educational opportunity on this subject.

If you are like many other small and medium scale growers, the food safety challenges related to post-harvest handling and hygiene are significant; especially in light of the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule requirements.

To support local growers with these challenges, On-Farm Food Safety experts from Michigan State University Extension, local Michigan Conservation Districts, and The University of Vermont are hosting a post-harvest handling and hygiene workshop for small and medium sized growers of fresh produce.

This FREE, half day, event will feature hands-on demonstrations and practical, affordable solutions related to cleaning and sanitizing food contact surfaces, hygienic design, safety and personnel protection, and methods for developing standard operating procedures for various challenging tasks.
