PhD Assistantship

A PhD student is sought to participate in a new interdisciplinary and international project on metacouplings (socioeconomic-environmental interactions within as well as between adjacent and distant coupled human-natural systems, http://csis.msu.edu/sites/csis.msu.edu/files/ES-2017-9830.pdf), funded by the National Science Foundation (http://csis.msu.edu/research/projects/uncovering-metacoupled-socio-environmental-systems). The project will focus on the trade of agricultural products among Brazil, China and other countries such as USA, and its impacts on the environment, land use, and food security across local to international scales. This is an exciting new research frontier and we are looking for applicants with a strong interest in the integration of metacoupled human and natural systems.

Application materials include: (1) letter of application, (2) CV or resume, (3) academic statement, (4) personal statement, (5) transcripts, (6) GRE scores, (7) TOEFL scores (for non-native English speakers only), (8) list of 3-4 references (names and contact information), and (9) up to three representative publications if any. Unofficial copies of GRE, TOEFL and transcripts are OK initially.  The position is available now but start date is relatively flexible.  Applicants are encouraged to submit their application materials as soon as possible, or until the position is filled.  Applications and questions about the position should be emailed to:
