Assistant Director of Stone Lab (Posting: 446031):

Under the direction and guidance of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab Director, the Assistant Director of Stone Lab oversees all aspects of Stone Laboratory operations maintaining the lab’s reputation as a program and facility dedicated to cutting-edge scientific research, education and public outreach. This position supervises Stone Laboratory managers (i.e., Education and Outreach Coordinator, Research Coordinator, and Lab Manager) and Facilities Operation and Boat Operation leads to maintain and grow research, outreach and educational programs; oversees efforts of Stone Laboratory managers to address the needs and operations of facilities and grounds, vehicles and vessels, dining and residence, and the business office. The Assistant Director assists with Stone Lab strategic planning; serves as lead contact for all large-scale facilities and grounds improvements; collaborates with business office to develop annual budget and to evaluate fees; assesses, reviews and changes program processes to ensure consistency and compliance with university policies and procedures and other regulatory agencies. With management responsibility of Stone Lab personnel, oversees the review, development and implementation of staff training, recruitment and retention strategies; manages annual staff performance review process while also providing on-going feedback to staff on performance; develops employee communication and engagement activities that instill commitment, motivation and a high-trust work culture. To foster public awareness and support of Stone Lab, develops strategies to engage community members, stakeholders, and other partners; assists in implementation and management of grant writing and funding efforts in partnership with Columbus office; serves on committees and represents department at meetings as requested by Director; assists with donor relations as needed; participates in outreach education programs/presentation throughout Lake Erie, Ohio and Great Lakes based on program needs. It is critical for success for the Assistant Director to communicate frequently with the Director on all program issues, needs and accomplishments; performs other duties as assigned.
Position located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio (Individual may reside off island).
