Program Director Job (Consultancy) Announcement
 
The AgroEcology Fund (AEF) is a multi-donor fund supporting climate change through low input agriculture featuring sustainable soil and water use. It links organizations and movements that advance agroecological solutions locally, regionally and globally.
 

The person holding the Program Director position (a new position) will beand learning system, being a core contributor in resource mobilization efforts (principally proposal and report writing) and overseeing AEF’s annual grant cycle. AEF is a small and dynamic organization with ample opportunity for leadership. Excellent opportunity to work with agroecology movement to amplify agroecology around the world.
 

Responsibilities:
 

Grantee Accompaniment and Monitoring and Evaluation
·      Responsible for monitoring and evaluation with grantees – both past and present
·      Orient/welcome new grantees to AEF and clarify outcomes sought with AEF support
·      Gather and synthesize grantee reports
·      Conduct occasional site visits
·      Maintain monitoring database of grant impacts
·      Produce annual synthesis of AEF aggregate impact
·      Monitor progress, facilitate progress on strategic plan and organize strategic planning reflection discussions as needed, including face-to-face gatherings
·      (Approximate time allocation – 35%)
Learning
·      Distill and summarize learnings on a regular basis for use in fundraising and advocacy
·      Staff a Learning Working Group among grantees, advisors and donors
·      Facilitate learning amongst grantees, including 3x/year webinars and every three year learning exchange
·      Conduct donor education webinars 3x/year
·      (Approximate time allocation – 10%)
Resource Mobilization and Donor Relations
·      Share donor outreach responsibilities with Executive Director, e.g., represent AEF at conferences
·      Support ED in ongoing relationships with existing donors
·      Operate as primary contact for small portfolio of donors
·    Develop content and work with Communications Coordinator to develop reports and proposals to existing donors and proposals to solicit new funding
·    Contribute content for annual report
·    (Approximate time allocation – 25%)
Grantmaking
·      Responsible for organizing overall process, from nominations to final docket approval
·      (Approximate time allocation – 20%)
Communications
·      Draw content from monitoring inputs for reports, proposals and publications, including web
·      Work closely with Communications Lead
·      (Approximate time allocation – 10%)
 
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
·    Passion for grassroots-led food system transformation
·    Passion for mobilizing resources in support of a global agroecology movement
·    Previous experience in coordinating monitoring, evaluation and learning processes (MEL)
·    Previous experience in writing fundraising proposals and reports to funders
·    Previous experience in grant-making
·    Previous experience in project management
·    Interest in deepening fundraising skills
·    Strong writing skills in English
·    Excellent interviewing and synthesis skills
·    Experience working with social movement actors
·    Ability to travel approximately 3 to 5 weeks per year
·    If not located in U.S., ability to work with team virtually in U.S. Eastern Standard Time
 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
·    Familiarity with maintaining a monitoring database a plus
·    Published articles for non-academic media a plus
·    Ability to produce camera-ready copy in English a plus
·    Website copy-writing and multi-media skills a plus
·    Previous experience working with agroecology movement a plus
·    Spanish and/or French a plus
 

This is a part-time consultant position, approximately 3 - 4 days per week position (benefits not included).
