*Visiting PhD Student at American University of Sharjah*



The *Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business*
at AUS is seeking PhD students who are interested in visiting the School of
Business Administration to collaborate on family business research with
faculty. Visiting students will work with *Prof. Rodrigo Basco* and a group
of international scholars with the aim of developing high-impact research
on family business. The duration of the visiting appointment is for
four-and-a-half months.

To support research on family business in the Arab World, the *Sheikh Saoud
bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business* and the *Family
Business in the Arab World Observatory* are going to sponsor PhD students.
Successful applicants will receive a stipend to help offset travel related
expenses such as roundtrip airfare, accommodation at AUS campus and, in
some cases, research expenses. In addition, they will have access to office
space, library, and additional research material such as databases.

The application process is competitive and up to two visiting positions
will be awarded for the 2019/2020 academic year. Applicants should identify
areas of mutual research interest before applying, and be as specific as
possible about the proposed research in the application. Main topics:
family business in the Arab world, family business and context, family
business and regional development, and family entrepreneurship

*July 10, 2019*:  Deadline for interested applicants to send a cover letter
to Prof. Basco Rodrigo ([log in to unmask]) describing their research interests
and a CV. It is possible to coordinate a meeting in any of the following
conferences: 1) 15th EIASM Workshop on Family Firm Management (Nantes,
France), 2) EURAM 2019 Conference - European Academy of Management (Lisbon,
Portugal), and 3) Regional Studies Association Annual Conference (Santiago
de Compostela, Spain).

at AUS*

The Sheikh Saoud Bin Khalid Bin Khalid Al Qassimi Chair in Family Business
was established to honor Sheikh Saoud Khalid Al Qassimi's legacy. He was a
Sharjah businessman who founded a family business back in the 1970s that is
now in its third generation. The Chair, holds by Prof. Rodrigo Basco, which
is the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates, aims to become a
recognized family business knowledge hub in the regional, national and
international context. The chair’s objective is to create ground-breaking
knowledge of family business which will be useful for promoting sustainable
firms and cohesive and happy families for the regional well-being and
competitiveness.
