Mid-Michigan Ponds is a dynamic pond construction and pond management company serving the mid-Michigan area.  We are seeking a self-motivated, detail oriented and environmentally conscious Aquatic Pesticide Applicator who enjoys working outdoors while applying sound biological principles in daily pond treatments. This full time/seasonal position is responsible for treating aquatic vegetation and algae at residential and commercial lakes and ponds.  Other duties include fountain and aeration installation (including windmills), fish stocking, water clarification and expansion of the existing customer base.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual that works well on their own, yet is a strong team player.  If you enjoy working independently, with only general supervision, in a very busy, fast-paced environment, Mid-Michigan Ponds is the place for you.
You will be responsible for a weekly route around the mid-Michigan/ Lansing area.  40 hour work week, M-F, weather dependent, with occasional overtime or weekends based on business need.  This position has a seasonal layoff from late-Nov-late March with rehire based on performance.

Requirements:

•         Must be a Certified Pesticide Applicator in the state of Michigan for Category 5 (Aquatic Pest Management), Category 6 (Right of Way) is a plus, but not required.  (2) years previous professional aquatic pesticide application and experience REQUIRED.

•         Have the ability to identify species of aquatic plants, choose herbicides to target growth and apply appropriate treatments.

•         Field experience in water quality monitoring.  Independently conduct manual collection of lake and pond water quality data such as temperature, pH, DO, etc.  Record and report findings. (preferred, but can train)

•         Be familiar with and be able to comply with state and federal regulations pertaining to Aquatic Nuisance Control, specifically Natural Resources and EPA Act. 451, part 33.

•         Keep track of and file required application treatment reports, internal and MDEQ.

•         Ability to read and interpret herbicide labels, operating procedures, and safety rules

•         Able and willing to work in various/extreme weather conditions (8+ hrs. per day). Candidate must be comfortable performing assigned duties outdoors while walking through various and challenging terrain, including but not limited to water, heavy vegetation and uneven land.

•         Good swimming skills (we work around water)

•         Responsible for sanitizing and maintaining equipment and boat after each use in prevention of spreading aquatic invasive species.

•         Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record

•         18 years of age or older

•         Able to lift or carry up to 70 lbs.

•         Good oral and written communication skills.  Document and communicate daily work activity including products and quantity used.  Present professionalism with customers.

•         Supervise up to (1) assistant applicator

•         Ability to operate trucks, trailers, outboard boats, ATV’s and backpack sprayers

•         Highly motivated to work with little to no supervision

•         Possess good time management, problem solving and organizational skills

•         Pay attention to detail

•         Dependability a MUST

PREFERRED (not REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS:


•         A 2-4 year degree in Aquatic Biology, Fisheries Biology, Ecological Sciences, Limnology or closely related fields.
