This appointment will last from approximately Feb 11 to October 31, 2019. Housing is not provided. Examples of Duties The selected incumbent will be shared between the Utah Division of Wildlife’s fisheries research and fish health programs and will provide technical assistance on field and laboratory based research and fish health inspections. Fisheries Research program duties will be variable and may include but are not limited to: electrofishing, gill netting, spawning surveys, limnology, data entry and QA/QC, otolith preparation and ageing, isotope preparation, zooplankton identification, literature reviews, triploid sampling and equipment maintenance. Fish Health responsibilities may include travel to various sites around the State to assist with fish health inspections, prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, prepare media and reagents, prepare and stain slides, perform animal dissections, work with potentially hazardous materials, clean and sterilize laboratory areas and equipment, deflesh fish heads and laboratory upkeep. Job Requirements and Skills Applicants must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, work well with others, work in occasional harsh weather conditions, go on overnight trips, camp on occasion, operate four wheel drive vehicles, tow trailers, operate boats, lift 50 lbs, handle and/or dispose of hazardous materials, work with laboratory chemicals, use strong cleaning agents and have a valid Utah driver’s license. Preference will be given to those with a B.S. in fisheries or a related field. Other Applicants must be willing to work in an outdoor setting, and work weekends and holidays.
