The Summer Soil Institute is your opportunity to gain an integrated perspective with world-renowned faculty to address critical questions using current analytical techniques, experimental approaches, and instructional models.
Designed for graduate students, post-docs, professionals, faculty, and K-12 teachers.
The Summer Soil Institute will be held June 16-29, 2018 and is located at the confluence of the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains, at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO.
Summer Soil Institute participants will get hands-on experience with lab, field, and modeling techniques such as:
Pedology: Field characterization of soil profiles in grasslands and forest environments.
Soil Biogeochemistry: Greenhouse gas flux measurements, soil organic matter physical fractionation, 13C and 15N isotope techniques.
Soil Microbiology: DNA extraction, quantitative PCR, extracellular enzyme activity assays.
Soil Ecology: Extraction and identification (microscopy and molecular) of nematodes, protozoa, rotifers, tardigrades, arthropods, and earthworms.
Modeling: Application of equation and agentâÂ?Â"based models of soil food web dynamics, biogeochemical cycling, and soil organic matter.
