Job: Field and Hatchery Technician
Categories: Temporary (Up to 6 Months)
Salary: $12.00/ hr; food and lodging provided.

End Date: August 31, 2019
Agency/Location: Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Michigan State University. The field site is located in Cheboygan County, Michigan.
Responsibilities: Field and Hatchery technicians (N=5) are needed to assist in ongoing lake sturgeon research. Field work would include capture of adults, collection of gametes and larvae using multiple sampling techniques, collection of stream physical and biotic data, acoustic telemetry, assisting with experiments in stream and lab. In addition, technicians will assist in fish production and experimental research in a stream-side facility. Qualifications: Applicants should have an interest in fisheries science and be enrolled in a biological degree program such as fisheries, zoology, natural resources or allied fields or have a completed BS degree. A valid driver’s license is required. Experience with handling of live fish and use of fisheries sampling and assessment equipment and basic computer operation and data base management would be beneficial. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with experience identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates, candidates who are SCUBA certified, and candidates with research experience.
Salary: Minimum $12/hr. These are 3-6 month positions.  Two positions will begin in early-April.  Other positions are available beginning in Late-April, Early-May, or as soon as possible thereafter. The selected applicants will be provided with room and board near the field site in Cheboygan County, MI for the duration of the field season. Other necessary field equipment will be provided. Scheduling considerations will be provided for applicants still attending an undergraduate program.
