I-CORPS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

The Midwest I-Corps Node is offering an instructor training opportunity to anyone who would like to learn how to deliver well-rounded Regional I-Corps programs to teams of entrepreneurs. Trainees are provided with the curriculum, guided through the logistics of running a course, and get experience working directly with teams. This opportunity will be available through the University of Michigan Winter 2019 Intro to Customer Discovery course in Ann Arbor, MI. Dates and other details about the course are provided below. Intro to Customer Discovery Course
Purdue University

Dates: Jan 16, Feb 6 & 22, 2019
Location: West Lafayette, IN

The Introduction to Customer Discovery course is a taste of the Lean LaunchPad method to give participants a working knowledge of how to think about their opportunity from a business and customer perspective, as well as how to properly conduct customer discovery interviews; the first step in any commercialization process. This course covers the two main concepts in NSF I-Corps, value propositions and customer segments, as well as providing a set of skills and entrepreneurial knowledge that can be applied to any career path. This Regional I-Corps program is open to teams across the Midwest and provides lineage to apply for the NSF I-Corps program.

Agriculture Technology Innovation Summit

Dates: Mar 5 & 6, 2019
Location: Champaign, IL

Have an innovative business idea that involves Ag Tech?

For researchers with innovative ideas with an AgTech focus, MWIN will be offering an I-Corps Industry Connect program on March 5th & 6th in Champaign, IL. This customer discovery and networking workshop will be held in conjunction with the University of Illinois Research Park’s Ag Tech Summit. The Summit will bring together over 300 attendees representing more than 40 companies. This is a great opportunity to engage with decision makers in the Ag Tech space. In past years, presenters and attendees at the Summit have come from a broad group of companies such as Granular, Agrible, John Deere, and AGCO. They represent industries ranging from agriculture to financial services to internet services to health care. This Regional I-Corps program is open to teams across the Midwest and provides lineage to apply for the NSF I-Corps program.

NSF I-Corps Program

Deadline to apply: ASAP; Winter 2019 cohorts are almost full!

The NSF I-Corps Program helps researchers translate their academic research into real-world products by providing a working knowledge of how to think about their research from an end user/customer perspective. During the program, teams will…

  • Obtain $50,000 for travel to talk to potential end users/customers
  • Understand why your technology has value and to whom
  • Find an application/market for your technology that had not been previously considered
  • Gain an appreciation for what it takes to commercialize technology and the barriers to adoption
  • An accelerated approach to prevent years of wasted time, money and resources
  • Expand your network of like-minded peers, instructors, investors, customers, and mentors
  • Increase likelihood of getting the SBIR award by 3X
