This employee position will be limited to a period of 6 years, starting on January 07, 2019 (commencement date subject to change). Please note that under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Teaching and Research Associate is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. Applicants who are already employed at WU as substitute employees can therefore only be employed for the time remaining to complete the six-year period. Persons who have already been employed at WU in a Teaching and Research Associate position can only be re-employed in an Assistant Professor, tenure track position. Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the successful applicant include, but are not limited to research, teaching, and administrative tasks. You will conduct independent research focussed on firm-level data pursuing a PhD (or doctorate) degree. In particular, we are looking for a researcher to work on the "Digital Governance" project. ln the context of this project you will be engaged in collecting and analysing firm-level qualitative and quantitative data, including company case studies and larger data sets that will include firm-level data on corporate governance, business strategy, and technology. Some of this data has been prepared already. Apart from this project, you will be expected to support research activities and administrative tasks in the academic unit. There will also be a requirement to teach one class in the international business field with a teaching load of two hours per semester starting after the second semester of your employment. Your Profile: We are looking for applicants with a strong academic record, including a completed relevant Master degree (MSc or equivalent). A specialization in international business or finance is an asset. For research and teaching purposes we expect you to have excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and at least a working knowledge of German. We look for candidates with solid knowledge of data analysis techniques and software (R, STATA, or similar), and basic knowledge of programming languages (such as C++). An ability to work with major firm-level databases and company documents is a key requirement for this role, an understanding of digital technology and digital business models is a plus. Experience with teaching or teaching support in tertiary education is an asset.
