Research Associate (Fisheries)-Ohio

Summary of duties.—The Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology/Aquatic Ecology Laboratory, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Research Associate 1-B/H to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. This individual will assist Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife biologists with projects associated with fisheries research and management. This is a 1-year position (renewable for a second year) stationed at the Inland Fisheries Research Unit, Hebron, Ohio. Duties include field and office work and may require working in inclement weather, evenings, and occasional weekends.

Primary activities include collecting fisheries data for standardized population assessments and for research projects in Ohio reservoirs, streams, and the Ohio River. The individual in this position will assist in the preparation of manuscripts based on fisheries research and management data; lead/coordinate independent fisheries research and management projects; and, generally contribute to activities at the Inland Fisheries Research Unit. Additional duties include: sample processing (fish aging, water quality measurements), data entry, data analysis, and data summarization. Strongly desired skills include: field sampling experience (fisheries techniques, limnological approaches); sample processing knowledge; proficiency with: statistical analysis of large and/or complex datasets, statistical and/or empirical modeling, database management, GIS skills, and a demonstrated commitment to excellent written and verbal communication. Many of these skills can be improved on the job. Importantly, this individual must be able to work independently and as a team member.

Required qualifications.— Master of Science degree in Fisheries Management, Aquatic Ecology, or related field; strong statistical and data management skills; demonstrated excellence in written and verbal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Requires the successful completion of a background check.

Wage.—Up to $18.23/hour.
