PhD position in International Entrepreneurship at Universidad EAFIT Medellin, Colombia

 

Universidad EAFIT in Medellin, Colombia, the PhD program in Business Administration, and the Department of International Business invite applications for a vacant PhD scholarship within the field of International Entrepreneurship starting January 2019.

 

The PhD program in Business Administration was the first program of its kind offered in Colombia since 2005 and the first PhD program in the country to receive accreditation status by the National Council for Accreditation in 2017.

 

The Department of International Business is the forerunner in international business teaching and research in Colombia with more than 17 faculty members and offers internationally-positioned undergraduate and master programs in international business.

 

The PhD program is comprised of four years of full-time study. Most classes are taught in Spanish. The admitted student is offered a financial support package which includes a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend during 11 months of the year in Colombian Pesos of 2.5 times the legal minimum monthly wage in force during the 4 years of studies. A full-time dedication to study and research is expected over the 4 year period.

 

The position is under the supervision of Associate Professor Sascha Fuerst and linked to the research project 'Strategy making during entrepreneurial internationalization'. The candidate will conduct research on the level of the entrepreneurial team making use of qualitative process research applied to new ventures embedded in Medellin's ecosystem for entrepreneurship.

 

To be considered, the candidate should have completed a science-oriented master’s degree in (international) business or management. The applicant must be proficient in both Spanish and English. A valid (max. 2 years between international exam and start date of program in January 2019) international exam needs to be provided, certifying at least a B2 level (CEFR) in all four language abilities for both English and Spanish. A graduation certificate from a bachelor or master program offered in English in an English-speaking country or a program offered in Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country will be accepted as proof of proficiency in English and Spanish, respectively.

·        A research proposal linked to the topic of 'Strategy making during entrepreneurial internationalization' focusing on entrepreneurial team-level data applying qualitative process research methods.

·        Copy of the transcripts of prior academic studies.

·        Proof of language proficiency in both Spanish and English.

·        Two letters of recommendation from university professors familiar with the candidate’s academic work.
