Theory development is an essential requirement for submissions to top-tier
management journals to survive the review process. Yet, most submissions do
not make it because of the lack of theoretical contribution and poor theory
development. An often allegedly reason for this has been identified in the
lack of a clear agreement of what constitutes theory and a theoretical
contribution despite the availability of an invaluable portfolio of online
resources top- tier management journals have developed over time. One
reason for this may be traced back to the pivotal role of tacit knowledge
in the process of acquiring this understanding. In such a process
interaction, feedbacks and debates with scholars, who have proved to master
theory development and contribute to advance theory in their field of
research are critical. This workshop intends to provide participants with
an opportunity to augment their professional and personal skills by
exploiting physical proximity with distinguished scholars, who will offer
valuable insights, discuss their experience, interact with the audience and
stimulate relevant and meaningful discussion. The workshop also intends to
take a broad view to theory development by considering it as a multi-phases
process encompassing among other writing theory and drafting the
appropriate research design. While drawing on illustrations from
international management, the workshop will offer useful tools to scholars
working in the broad management field.
