The Department of Political Sciences of the University of Bari Aldo Moro welcomes papers submission at the International Conference on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development: Assessing the Effectiveness of Public Policies to be held in Bari on 4-5 October 2018. The conference is organized in collaboration with the 'Associazione Italo-Americana American Studies Center'.
Entrepreneurial firms such as startups, spinoffs, and more generally small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) belonging to technology-intensive industries play a crucial role for economic development. New firms generate employment, value added and contribute to dissemination of ideas and innovation. The conference aims to provide academics, policymakers, and practitioners with a valuable forum for discussion on entrepreneurship as a driver of economic development and on the role of public policies to support entrepreneurial firms and SMEs. A special emphasis will be placed on venture capital and other external forms of financing, and on public policies supporting their implementation.

Contributions concerning the Italian or American context, as well as international comparisons, are particularly encouraged. Theoretical and empirical papers are welcome.
Extended abstracts or full papers can be submitted to [log in to unmask] no later than July 30, 2018. Papers in a complete version have priority in the selection process. Authors will be notified of the decision by August 10, 2018. Thanks to sponsorship from the American Studies Center of Naples, the conference is free of charge, including meals and social events.
PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITY
After the conference, a selection of high quality papers could be invited for consideration in a special issue of an international academic journal. The papers will follow the normal peer review process. Upon authors consent, presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings published via an academic publisher.
