University of California Cooperative Extension is seeking candidates for a new
regional Cooperative Extension advisor position to be based in San Jose, CA.
Closing Date: May 4, 2018

The Cooperative Extension (CE) advisor for urban agriculture & food systems
will conduct a multi-county extension, education and applied research program
that addresses the needs of producers and decision makers in an emerging and
rapidly growing urban food production systems—the cultivation, processing, and
distribution of food in urban areas and related policy.  The CE advisor will
need an understanding of agricultural production as well as land-use planning
and food security issues. There is a great need for research-based information
to inform city and county decision makers on how to craft agriculture and food
security policies to support successful food production and distribution,
create linkages between urban consumers and peri-urban producers, and meet the
challenge of uneven food access in urban areas. This CE advisor has a unique
opportunity to create linkages between UC, the Silicon Valley’s high tech
industry, urban and peri-urban growers, urban planners and regulatory
agencies, community organizations, extension services, and farmer education
networks, and underserved communities around the production of healthy food.
