One last reminder and apologies for cross-postings

The deadline for early registration for the AIB meetings in Minneapolis is SATURDAY MARCH 31. There will be NO EXTENSION of the early registration deadline so if you don’t get your registration in by the 31st, you will have to pay the full registration fee.

Remember also that if you are on the program for the AIB meetings, you MUST be an AIB member.

The registration link is here: https://aib.msu.edu/events/2018/Registration.asp.

Ways you can pay the registration fee:

  1. You can pay online with a credit card.
  2. Or, download a PDF form, complete with your credit card details and send by fax to the AIB Secretariat by the March 31, 2018 deadline. See Kathy Kiessling’s address and the fax number below.

By the way, the last payment method will also work for contributions to the WAIB HELPING HANDS CAMPAIGN, which provides grants to women scholars from developing countries who have papers accepted for the AIB program. (Unfortunately, it’s not possible at this point in time to donate directly on the website.) See http://waib.aib.world/donors/ and click the “become a donor” button to download the PDF form. You may also complete the form and submit by postal mail.  Please make a difference in someone else’s life by helping support women from developing countries who have papers accepted for the AIB program cover the travel costs of attending AIB and presenting their papers.

Thanks and hope to see you in Minneapolis. A list of some of the AIB activities in Minneapolis are outlined in my earlier email below.

Subject: update on the AIB annual meetings in Minneapolis - register now

Dear AIB members:

A quick reminder that the deadline for EARLY REGISTRATION for the AIB 2018 meetings in Minneapolis is Saturday March 31. Registration rates go up after this date so save some money by register now. The registration link is here: https://aib.msu.edu/events/2018/Registration.asp. You can pay online or download a PDF form to send by fax or postal mail to the AIB Secretariat.

Looking ahead to the conference, the webpage is here: https://aib.msu.edu/events/2018/ and key events are listed here: https://aib.msu.edu/events/2018/Program.asp.

Three AIB Fellows -- Program Chair JT Li (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) and Co-Hosts Stefanie Lenway (University of St. Thomas) and Srilata Zaheer (University of Minnesota) -- have planned a superb program with lots of exciting activities related to the conference theme, “Global Business and the Digital Economy.”  Come see how the digital economy is transforming the “Twin Cities.” The Minneapolis/St. Paul area is home to many of the Fortune 500 firms; take advantage of AIB’s site visit opportunities to see how firms are responding to the digital revolution.

In terms of pre-conference activities, the AJBS Conference and the Research Methods Workshops are on Sunday June 24. The PhD and Junior Faculty Consortia are on Monday June 25, along with the JIBS and JIBP Paper Development Workshops.

The conference opens with a Plenary Session Monday June 25 at 5:15 pm, followed by the AIB Presidents’ Reception. I write Presidents’ rather than President’s Reception, because this year 14 of the 15 living Past Presidents of AIB are coming to the conference in Minneapolis to help celebrate AIB’s 60th Anniversary. They will be recognized at the Opening Plenary and will be co-hosting the Presidents’ Reception with me, providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet 15 AIB Presidents at one time.

I will also be chairing a Town Hall Plenary session with the AIB Past Presidents on Wednesday June 27, just before the Gala Event at the US Bank Stadium. For the Town Hall, I’ve asked each of the Past Presidents to think about the following question: Where should AIB be in 10 years and how should AIB get there? Come listen to their answers and join in the Q&A session afterwards.

To celebrate AIB’s 60th anniversary we have also launched the AIB History Project, under the able direction of Jean Boddewyn (AIB Historian) and Lilac Nachum (AIB Deputy Historian). They has been working hard with the AIB Secretariat, the Past Presidents and the AIB Fellows to build a historical record of the AIB and we hope to show some of the results in Minneapolis. The new AIB Code of Ethics and the Mission, Vision and Values Statements should also be in place and we’ll be highlighting them and the new ethics committees at various points in the conference.

The Twin Cities are also regularly on the list of best cities for families to visit so bring your families. Travel guides can be found here: https://bit.ly/2DWVcnb and  https://bit.ly/2pEnxdB. There are many things to do within a day’s drive of Minneapolis/St. Paul; see for example https://bit.ly/2GfOJ8C and  https://bit.ly/2dtNpA5. After the conference is over, take advantage of the pleasant summer weather (average temperatures are 81 (high) and 59 (low) Fahrenheit), and enjoy a long weekend holiday with your family and friends celebrating Independence Day on July 4th. (You could even drive up to Canada first and celebrate Canada Day on July 1st. An enterprising individual could celebrate three anniversaries –  AIB, Canada and the USA – in one week!)

Hope to see you in Minneapolis – come help us celebrate AIB’s 60th anniversary -- and don’t forget to take advantage of early registration. March 31st is the deadline!
