The successful applicant will provide training, mentoring, and supervision of undergraduate and bachelor's-level seasonal employees for field data collection; participate in all field sampling including remote camera trapping, deer fecal pellet and browse transects, pellet collection for DNA barcoding, planting of seedlings, creation of stump sprouts, and construction of enclosures; and work closely with the Project Coordinator to acquire access to properties, schedule field activities, and serve as quality control for data collection. The field research coordinator is also responsible for coordinating field crew logistics throughout the academic year, including transportation and work schedules; maintaining research equipment and inventories; conducting and providing oversight for initial data entry and for screening of images from remote cameras and aerial sampling; and assisting with deer sightability trials. Responsibilities include recommendations on hiring and termination decisions of undergraduate and bachelor's-level seasonal employees, and participation in some department-led extension activities. This academic-year position is budgeted for 3+ years with an anticipated start date of 15 August 2018. Required qualifications include a B.S. degree in wildlife science, field ecology, or related natural resources discipline, as well as 1 year of experience with field research, preferably with deer and vegetation sampling methods such as camera trapping, fecal pellet counts, browse transects and aerial surveys. Preferred qualifications include experience with white-tailed deer, hunting and hunters, chainsaws, fence construction, tree planting, and 4-wheel drive vehicles, experience working collaboratively with diverse teams, and supervision of student workers.
