of Economics and Business. The Department is home to a vibrant community of
scholars from all over the world, comprising nearly 50 full-time faculty and
over 20 PhD students. About 1/3 of the faculty members is non-Dutch and more
than 80% of the PhD students come from outside the Netherlands. GEM faculty
engage in cutting-edge research in International
Economics, International Business, and International Management. The department
covers a variety of interests and backgrounds, and embraces a range of research
approaches and methods with a keen focus on quality in research and teaching. GEM
focuses on applied as well as fundamental research questions.

corporate governance, international strategic alliances, and corporate social
responsibility. The group’s work has appeared in numerous top-tier general
management and domain-specific journals in recent years, including AMR, SMJ,
JIBS, JoM, JMS, Org. Studies, MIR, IBR, and JWB.
Department is responsible for key courses in two BA programmes, i.e. the
self-standing bachelor programme in International Business, and the
International Economics & Business track in the Economics & Business
Economics bachelor programme. The Department is directly responsible for two
MSc programmes: International Business & Management and International
Economics & Business. In addition, the Department participates in the
Research Master programme (a challenging 2-year Master programme set up for
students intending to pursue a PhD contributing to the PhD training programme
of the research school SOM).
The Assistant Professor contributes to research, teaching, and management of the department. Following a period of growth and continuing success, the department wishes to further strengthen its position in International Management. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this research focus. In terms of teaching, the successful candidate will contribute to the International Management courses across the BA and MSc programmes in International Business and Management as well as the Research Master programme. The successful candidate will be asked to develop and teach courses close to his or her field of research.
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
· a PhD degree in business, economics, or a related discipline, and expertise in the field of International Management
· a relevant publication record demonstrating the candidate's ability (or potential) to publish in international academic publications, preferably in top tier peer-reviewed journals
· relevant teaching experience, including proven interest and ability in developing courses and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and in mentoring students
· a relevant international network
· a team player with good communication and collaborating skills
· the potential to generate external funding for research projects.
Tenure track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions subject to a tenure decision after a period of five years. Formal tenure track requirements include criteria with respect to research prominence, teaching and external funds raising activities. During the tenure track period 50% of the position is reserved for research and 50% is devoted to teaching activities.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For candidates at the Assistant Professor level, salary is starting from a minimum of € 3,475 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 5,405 gross per month (salary scale 12 of the Dutch Universities) for a fulltime position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
The assessment whether you meet the criteria takes place after 5 years. Based on a positive final evaluation, tenure will be granted and promotion to Associate Professor. Taking into account any life events and/or time for outplacement, the appointment is for the maximum duration of 7 years.
The Tenure Track path can be rounded off with promotion to Full Professor under the condition that criteria are met.
