Hello all,

We are seeking applicants for two Scientific Aide positions in the Fish Ecology Research Lab (www.uidaho.edu/ferl<http://www.uidaho.edu/ferl>) at the University of Idaho for work in the Columbia River Gorge studying the migration of adult Pacific lamprey. The two primary study goals are to 1) evaluate recently installed Lamprey Passage Structures at Bonneville Dam using radio- and PIT-telemetry, and 2) evaluation of Pacific lamprey behavior and physiology in experimental flumes to test design effectiveness and the relationship between lamprey passage success and swimming performance. The structures use the unusual climbing behavior of Pacific lamprey to allow lamprey to bypass fishway obstacles (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkhPN09msg4 for an example of the behavior).

Primary job duties will include installing and maintaining radio-telemetry equipment at lower Columbia River dams and tributary sites, collecting, tagging and releasing adult lamprey, and assisting with behavioral trials in an experimental flume at Bonneville Dam. The work will include some work on nights and weekends and work in inclement conditions.

We anticipate hiring two positions for work in 2018 with an anticipated start dates of January and March. The ideal candidates will have experience conducting fieldwork without direct supervision and the ability to work in a collaborative environment with other project personnel, graduate students, agency partners and other stakeholders. The positions are benefits eligible.

More information on the position, including a portal for applying can be found at:

Thanks for considering and please contact George Naughton (naughton_at_uidaho.edu) or Chris Caudill (caudill_at_uidaho.edu) with questions.

Best,
Chris Caudill
