AIB members might be interested in the publication of a newbook, Poverty Reduction, the Private Sector, and Tourism in MainlandSoutheast Asia, written by Scott A. Hipsher (Webster University:Thailand) and published by Palgrave Macmillan.


This book explores the issue of poverty reduction withinmainland Southeast Asia with a specific focus on the impact of the privatesector and the tourism industry. Specially covering the region encompassing  Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam,and Yunnan province in China, the book discusses how success in povertyreduction has come about largely through innovation in the private sector,foreign investment and the move toward more market based economic policies asopposed to foreign aid, or interventions by international developmentprograms, to reduce poverty in the region. 


The book might be of interest to scholars in internationalbusiness, economics, or tourism studies. It could also be of interest toindividuals concerned about the impact of tourism and travel on localpopulations in developing economies.
