AIB members might be interested in the publication of a new book, Poverty Reduction, the Private Sector, and Tourism in Mainland Southeast Asia, written by Scott A. Hipsher (Webster University: Thailand) and published by Palgrave Macmillan.

This book explores the issue of poverty reduction within mainland Southeast Asia with a specific focus on the impact of the private sector and the tourism industry. Specially covering the region encompassing  Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Yunnan province in China, the book discusses how success in poverty reduction has come about largely through innovation in the private sector, foreign investment and the move toward more market based economic policies as opposed to foreign aid, or interventions by international development programs, to reduce poverty in the region.

The book might be of interest to scholars in international business, economics, or tourism studies. It could also be of interest to individuals concerned about the impact of tourism and travel on local populations in developing economies.
