Subject: MI DNR MCCC Stewardship Crews

Hi Jim,

The Michigan DNR Parks and Rec Stewardship Unit is looking to fill a couple of positions for our MCCC stewardship crew in October and will be looking to fill a couple more after New Year’s. We are looking for people to sign up for a half year, but will probably be recruiting for a couple limited summer terms. Full time work is what we are recruiting for, but if we have a good candidate they will be considered for part time.

The MCCC crew is based out of Brighton Recreation Area and travels to state parks to work on ecological restoration, forest health, and other resource management projects. Work includes invasive plant management, native seed collection, seed processing, assisting with plantings, assisting with prescribed fire, and helping to maintain stewardship equipment. In addition to the work we have always done we are now assisting with the control efforts of oak wilt and hemlock woolly adelgid. Most of the work for this position is physical in nature, but the position is responsible for collecting GPS data, doing some monitoring, and completing detailed written records of field work that is done. The MCCC is considered a training program and is partnered with AmeriCorp. In addition to a minimal wage salary, crewmembers receive formal training, educational awards to help pay for school, and paid time to participate in career advancement opportunities of their choosing (that meet the criteria). See the attachment for more details.

If you could post this position on your listserv it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
