Page Prize for Sustainability Issues in Business Curricula 2016 Award Recipients Announced
The 2016 Page Prize received a record number of submissions from business school faculty both domestically and internationally. Due to the strength of the submissions, the committee awarded 2 Grand Prizes
and 2 Honorable Mentions.
In both the Grand Prize and Honorable Mention categories an award was presented to someone in the US and abroad. The award-winning curricula differ in their breadth and depth as well as in the level (undergraduate,

Grand Prize Winners
- Dr. Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez’s (Universidad EAFIT – Colombia) submission entitled “Ethics and Social Responsibility”
is an undergraduate course that takes a broad view of corporate social responsibility and the role of businesses in sustainable development. This course is centered around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and involves a mixture of learning
methods including experiential learning projects.
- Professor John Macomber’s (Harvard Business School) submission entitled “Building Sustainable Cities and Infrastructure”
takes a deep dive into increasing urbanization, scarcity of resources and the private sector’s role in sustainable infrastructure. This case-based course is multi-disciplinary in approach and is unique in its focus on infrastructure in business school curriculum.
Honorable Mentions
- Dr. Olga Hawn’s (University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler School of Business) submission entitled “Sustainability
Strategy” is the first PhD course to receive recognition through the Page Prize. This seminar-style course provides an excellent compilation of sustainability-related research and serves as a solid foundation for those interested in sustainability. Dr. Hawn
received an Honorable Mention for her MBA course “Sustainability Strategy” for the 2015 award, making this her second award with the PhD course submitted for the 2016 award.
- Dr. Daina Mazutis’s (University of Ottawa, Telfer School of Management) submission entitled “Leadership, Strategy
and Sustainability” is an undergraduate course geared towards a deep understanding of sustainability. The course combines multiple learning methods, including a live simulation, guest speakers, case studies, site visits, and a consulting project, making it
unique in its methodological approach.
The number of submissions last year demonstrates the increasing commitment of businesses to sustainability and its inclusion in business curriculum. A database of previous Page Prize winners and honorable

The call for submissions for the 2017 Page Prize will open in December.
